The Saalerwirt occupies a picturesque, almost secluded spot near the Maria Saalen pilgrimage church. One of the oldest inns in South Tyrol, it originally served as a wine tavern and hostel for pilgrims. The Tauber family has owned it since 1882. Today, the Saalerwirt’s tranquil location makes it a sought-after destination. The focus here is on traditional cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients, including home-grown vegetables and herbs and meat raised on their own farm. Guests especially enjoy the classic Sunday roast, the “Beuschel” (veal lungs) and the curd cheese and apricot bread dumplings. Vegan options are also available. Meals are served in the historic wood-panelled parlour, dating back to 1730, the newly renovated parlour, or on the light-flooded veranda.

Now in the hands of the fifth generation of the Tauber family, the Saalerwirt is run by Junior Manager Gabriel, alongside his parents Hans and Berta. Hans, a former chef, now manages the family farm, while Berta continues to showcase her culinary talents in the kitchen. Daughters Magdalena and Katherina also play active roles in the family business.
