High above Bolzano, the Kohlern Hotel and Restaurant offers a magical escape with enchanting Art Nouveau charm. Accessible by cable car, guests are transported from the city up the serene Kohlern mountain to a retreat steeped in the elegance of a bygone era. Originally built in 1870 as a manor house, the property was transformed into a mountain inn in 1899 by Josef Staffler, who also funded the construction of the world’s first cable car for passenger transport. Today, this hotel restaurant is lovingly managed by the Schrott family, who have meticulously restored the Alpine Art Nouveau architecture, preserving its rich identity. Offering the finest accommodations and cuisine, the Kohlern Hotel and Restaurant boasts stunning views over the Bolzano valley basin. Whether enjoying the chic panoramic terrace, the cosy “Zirbenstube” pine dining room, or the Belle Époque veranda from 1910, guests are treated to an unforgettable experience. The Kohlern’s restaurant is renowned for its extensive menu, showcasing the best of Bolzano cuisine and refined South Tyrolean specialities.
