More information Opening hoursFor over 400 years, the Adler has been one of the most famous inns in upper Pustertal; it is now expertly managed by the Pircher family. With a careful balance of tradition and modernity, the restaurant offers a menu that honours its culinary heritage while embracing contemporary flavours. Visitors rave about the beef fillet rolls and the steak tartare, but other popular dishes include hemp noodles with Ahrntal grey cheese and leeks, seasonal variations of “Gröstl” hash and classic “Schlutzkrapfen” stuffed pasta. The bar is a local gathering spot, while the 16th-century “Zirbenstuben” parlour and the veranda are perfect for celebrations and relaxed dining. The former house disco has been transformed into an elegant wine bar where guests can enjoy dinner at long wooden tables in the evening.
The host family
Since 1990, Christian and Helene Pircher have been running the Adler with the help of their three daughters, Elisa, Greta and Hanna. The family takes pride in the unique character of their hotel – and in the two cookbooks written by Helene, the hostess and head chef.

Hochalm mountain hut
Start this hike from the Hotel Pragser Wildsee and follow the trail along the western shore of the picturesque Lake Pragser Wildsee. From there, trail no. 19 branches off, leading gently uphill into the Grünwaldtal valley. The path passes the Grünwaldalm mountain hut (1,590 m above sea level) and the unmanaged Altkaserhütte mountain hut, after which it becomes steeper and narrower as it ascends through a sparse coniferous forest. The Hochalmhütte mountain hut (2,114 m above sea level) sits just above the tree line. The descent follows the same route.
Starting point: Hotel Pragser Wildsee
Duration: 3h
Distance: 7km
Elevation difference: 650m
Short loop around the Three Peaks
This hike around the Three Peaks starts at the Rifugio Auronzo mountain hut (2,320 m above sea level). Gravel path no. 101 remains almost flat as it crosses the scree slopes under the south faces of the Three Peaks. You will soon reach the “Cappella degli Alpini” chapel and the Rifugio Lavaredo mountain hut. Next, turn left along path no. 101 to the Paternsattel saddle. Crossing this, you will reach the source of the Rienz and then the Langalm (2,235 m above sea level). At this point, you’ll find the three Zinnenseen lakes, which beautifully reflect the towering peaks. After passing the lakes, the trail gently ascends on path no. 105 to the “Forcella del Col de Mezo” fork. From the fork, descend in a south-easterly direction along a gentle slope back to the Rifugio Auronzo.
Starting point: Rifugio Auronzo (accessible via a toll road)
Duration: 2h 30m
Distance: 7km
Elevation difference: 255m
Hike to Lake Toblach

A nature trail featuring 11 stations with information about the local flora, fauna and geology leads around the lake, and a viewing platform on the western shore provides a great spot to relax and enjoy the surrounding plant and animal life. The return route takes you through Toblach and back to Niederdorf.
Starting point: Niederdorf
Duration: 5h
Distance: 18,4km
Elevation difference: 260m
